Calgary Alberta Movers understand that moving can be a stressful experience at the best of times but throw in the mix of our Canadian winters and it poses even a few more challenges such as snow, ice, freezing rain and super cold temperatures. Here are a few tips to make your move as stress free as possible when moving in winter weather. Take Care with temperature sensitive items: Plants are the obvious, but there are other items that can be affected by extreme temperatures such as antique furniture, china that may crack or get fine lines. Be flexible: There are times in the winter when even the most reliable moving company has unforeseen delays. These delays may be due to closed highways or blizzard like road conditions which may slow down your move. It is a good idea to have a contingency plan in case the weather doesn’t cooperate for you. Cover your floors: Be sure to put down old sheets or drop cloths to prevent floors and carpets from getting damaged or dirty. There is a good chance there will be slush, snow or mud tracked in your home during the move. Keep on a smile: You may have your whole house or office turned upside down but if during the holidays you can still make room for a little holiday cheer such as having some egg nog on hand or putting up some small portable decorations that can easily move on moving day. Keep your sidewalks and driveway clear: This is especially important when movers are trying to carry heavy pieces of furniture or boxes to prevent movers and yourself from getting injured from a slippery or snow laden driveway or path. Move your pets first: ThIs is actually a good idea anytime of the year but especially during extreme heat or cold conditions. Get your pets to a warm and safe place before the movers arrive.
